Welcome to the show notes for the 2nd edition of Indie Andaluz first broadcast on Sunday 1 April, 2018 on Radio Mix 106 fm.
If you missed the show you can listen again on Mix Reloaded
1 – Hot Nasho and Himself Orchestra – Pretty Sinner Baby
Website
This week we opened the show with the Ronda bluesman Hot Nasho. Known to his mother as Jose Ignacio Mena, Hot Nasho and Himself Orchestra (one man band to you and me) built his reputation with some great blues covers, but since discovering Americana, has taken up the pen and has released some of his own compositions.
The opening track was Pretty Sinner Baby from his 2017 album ‘Lain Down Thinking’.
Sticking with the blues next up is Guadalupe Plata from Jaen in the northernmost reaches of Andalucia. I first caught this trio at the Estepona Rock Festival back in 2011, and was blown away by their style of satanic swamp blues. This next track is I’d Rather Be a Devil by the imaginatively titled album Guadalupe Plata 2011.
2 – Guadalupe Plata – I’d Rather Be a Devil

Our next band is Lemon Parade from Granada. Founded back in 2009 the band has gone through several styles with the influences ranging from 70s Prog to today’s Pop Rock.
This track White Rabbit is from their 2016 album #
3 – Lemon Parade – White Rabbit

Next up is Parlement a Belgian Spanish collaboration from Almeria headed up by Stefan Robert, this is Legend from their 2015 album Be Machinery / You Oughta Be In Pictures.
4 – Parlement – Legend
Bandcamp
I was fortunate enough to catch Parlement at Louie Louie’s in Estepona Port a few years ago when they were doing a double header with this next band Tragic Company.
Tragic Company are a rock band from Estepona headed by Juanma Medina. You might recall we played a track from Juanma’s other project, Blackhorse, in last week’s show.
This track is Burning Lung from the 2017 album ‘Enigma of the Soul’ available as a free download on their Bandcamp site.
5 – Tragic Company – Burning Lung
Bandcamp
If you want to see them live, Tragic Company will be competing in the first heat of the Gibraltar Battle of the Bands at the Rock on the Rock Club on April 20th.
Now for a change of tempo. This next artist came to my attention as a competitor in the Hard Rock Rising contest at the Hard Rock Cafe in Banus back in 2013. Fegensi is Haitian who was living on the Costa at the time. I’ve not heard anything from him since but this great track Me Levante y No Esta was his competition entry.
6 – Fegensi – Me Levante y No Esta
Soundcloud
Talking of competitions in last weeks show I mentioned the New Talents contest which is part of the Ojeando indie music festival. This next track is by the 2016 winners ElectroIndie duo Hungry Butterfly and is entitled ‘Are You Ready for the Bears.
7 – Hungry Butterfly – Are you ready for the Bears

This year’s New Talents contest sees a final lineup of three acts: Gentleman Clef, Proyecto Solaz and this band from Granada Nadie Canta. This is El Hipervinculo Perfecto.

Staying with Ojeando, another band going through to play the festival is the winner of the Best Malaga Band – Unsuspected who hail from Nerja. Follow me sleeping from the 2015 album Listen Time Space available on the group’s Bandcamp page

We’re at that point in the show where we make our weekly trip over the border into Gibraltar. Once again we’ve got three tracks for you, the first being from the young indie brit pop rock band Dakota and is taken from their debut EP ‘So Far So Great’. This is ‘Going Nowhere’
10 – Dakota – Going Nowhere

I mentioned in last week’s show that a number of local bands had been confirmed to join the likes of Stormzy, Two Door Cinema Club, Rag’n’Bone Man and the Boomtown Rats along with others on the line up at the MTV Gibraltar Calling music festival in September. Amongst these are the next two bands, Dead City Radio and Angel Wings. Dead City is fronted by musician and music journalist James Culatto and this track is High on Scars.
11 – Dead City Radio – High on Scars
Facebook
If you can’t wait until September to see Dead City Radio they will be at Louie Louie’s in Estepona on April 20th supported, I believe, by Jacver who we played last week.
The last of this week’s Gibraltar Bands is Angelwings a five piece symphonic metal band who have seen a rapid rise in popularity in the five years since they were formed signing with German label Pride and Joy Records in 2016. This track ‘The Fallen’ is from their 2017 debut album ‘The Edge of Innocence’. Again if you don’t want to wait until September to see Angel wings they will performing the entire album live at The Rock on the Rock Club in Gibraltar on Friday the 6th of April.
12 – Angel Wings – The Fallen

This next band is the perfect example of how flamenco can be fused with almost any genre this being a classic flamenco track. I found it on a compilation triple album entitled ‘Malaga Es Rock’
13 – Aguacan – Las velas
14 – 2True – Nothing But Love
Website
We kicked off the second half of the show with 2True and Nothing But Love. 2True are Mr Maph and his lovely wife Simone Lisa. Mr Maph is one of the Coast’s hardest working musicians – when he’s not performing with his wife or solo, he’ll be giving music lessons, writing songs for other musicians or recording London. In fact Mr Maph was in the studio recently and joined Mix 106 fm presenter Sid Olivera for his weekly show Two’s Company.
And now for something completely different. Petiswing is a thirties / forties style swing band based around its trio of female harmony singers a la Andrews Sisters backed up by a string section and drummer. The sound is pretty much unique on the Coast and just another example of the eclectic mix of music being made down here.
15 – Petiswing – Carta de Amor
Website
Now for a little rocksteady from the Granada ska band Los Granadians del Espacio Exterior (Granadians from outer space). Another band from the Liquidator label along with Briatore from Marbella, this track Rocksteady Birthday is off of their fifth album Onda Cosmica.
16 – Los Granadians – Rocksteady Birthday

Well that’s the public service announcement over with, let’s get back to the music and a band from Granada, Apartamentos Acapulco, this is Valentia from their 2015 EP Siete.
17 – Apartamentos Acapulco – Valentia

If we talk about Reggae in Spain, without a doubt Little Pepe is one of the most respected artists both nationally and internationally. Either individually or in collaboration with fellow artists Shabu and SDFK Little Pepe is an integral part of the Spanish reggae and hip hop scene. This track Producto del Barrio is from the 2012 album Del Mundo Hacia Malaga.
18 – Little Pepe – Producto del Barrio

Getting really close to home, in fact just a mile from the studio this next group is Kienes Nunca Kaerán or KNK for short a hip hop trio from San Luis de Sabinillas comprising Sabio, Odiho and Kamikazi Yusivo whose music has some great original touches. This is the title track from KNK’s 2010 album Vienen los Warros
19 – KNK – Vienen los Warros II

In the first half of the show I played you I’d Rather be a Devil by Guadalupe Plata this next track is Preso from their latest album Guadalupe Plata 2017 – you see what I mean about their album titles!
20 – Guadalupe Plata – Preso

Now for something from the ladies, this next band Flaming Dolls is a 5-piece all girl rock band from Malaga who moved to Madrid where their career really took off. I have had the opportunity to see them live a few times and they’re a great live act. This track is from their debut album Iras Mal Usadas and is called La Historia No Aprendida.
21 – Flaming Dolls – La Historia No Aprendida

Flaming Dolls will be releasing their second album shortly and I will bring you more news on that and their upcoming tour dates in the near future.
Next up is Ana López RodrÃÂguez, or Anni B Sweet as she is better known, an indie folk singer-songwriter born in Malaga.
Anni has been composing songs since the age of seven and in her teenage years performed in a number of bands until in 2007, she started to perform as a solo artist and word of her spread among music fans through MySpace. In 2008, she was signed by Subterfuge Records, Spain’s biggest independent label, with whom she released her debut album Start, Restart, Undo the following year.
This is the title track from her third album ‘Chasing Illusions’ released in 2015.
22 – Anni B Sweet – Chasing Illusions

Next up is Sami James an Argentinian/English singer/songwriter and recording artist.
Growing up in the South of Spain Sami cut his teeth in the clubs and bars of Costa Del Sol, until moving to Brighton in 2014. A regular on the Brighton club scene, playing as a solo act or with his band, Sami has returned to the Costa del Sol where he is a working musician, always busking, gigging, writing and recording.
This track Judge Me is from Sami’s 2016 album ‘Show The World’.
23 – Sami James – Judge me

As I mentioned earlier in the show if you’re in a band or a solo artist, or run a record label then please feel free to send me your tracks to studio@radiomix106.com. This next band did just that, their name is ZOO and they’re a rock band based in La Linea. This track is No Podia Durar and is from their debut EP ‘Testigos’ released last summer.

The penultimate track in today’s show is from a Malaga Indie rock band who go by the name of Modo Belico. This is from their 2011 debut self-titled album and is entitled Paisajes.
25 – Modo Belica – Paisajes
Bandcamp
Digging in the crates a little for this final track by Spanish stoner rock pioneers Viaje a 800. Long since disbanded this great track Los Angeles Que Hay En Mi Piel will live on as a classic, and funnily enough as I was preparing this show I received an announcement from Spinda Records that ‘Estampida de Trombones’ the album from which this next track is taken is to be re released on the 11th anniversary of its first release, with a limited vinyl run of just 300 units.
26 – Viaje A 800 – Los Angeles Que Hay En Mi Piel
